Biomag Basics: The Bilateral Pair
The bilateral pair is the most common pairing in biomagnetism, and the first one every biomag user should learn. Master this one pairing, and you'll be reaching for your magnets confidently.
What Does Bilateral Mean?
"Bilateral" simply means both sides: left and right. Anything your body has two of, one on the right and one on the left, is a bilateral structure.
Right and left sides of the brain
Eyes, ears, teeth
Right and left sides of the neck
Lungs, shoulders, elbows
Kidneys, ovaries, testicles
Hips, knees, ankles, feet...you get it.
Your body is full of bilateral pairs waiting to be worked with. If there's a right side and a left side of something, that's your bilateral pair placement.
How to Place a Bilateral Pair
So you know you're going to place magnets on your right and left shoulders, but which color goes where?
Wait. Backup. Before we go any further, we need to make a quick note about magnet strength. For biomagnetism to work, you must have strong enough magnets. They must have a surface gauss of 1,000+. Always use biomagnetism-grade magnets. Ok, back to the regularly scheduled article
Here's the standard rule for every bilateral pair in biomag:
Right side: black magnet facing the body
Left side: red magnet facing the body
Say it with me: black on the right, red on the left.
This rule applies to every bilateral pair, every time. And when I say "facing the body," I mean the side of the magnet that's in contact with your skin or clothing. Always the side facing the body.
When to Use a Bilateral Pair
Anytime is a great time to use a bilateral pair. But here are a few examples:
Shoulder pain? Bilateral pair.
Sinus congestion? Bilateral pair.
Hip discomfort? Bilateral pair.
Knee issues? Bilateral pair.
Kidney pain? Bilateral pair.
Sore legs after a workout? Bilateral pair.
Earache? Bilateral pair.
If you're ever unsure which pairing to use, start with bilateral. It's the right answer more often than not.
How Long to Leave Biomag Magnets On
Most of the time, 20 minutes is your baseline. Leave them on, go about your life, and let the magnets do their work. You'll be surprised at the difference 20 minutes makes. If you want the full breakdown of how long to leave biomag magnets on, you can read it here; otherwise, just remember 20 minutes.
Need to keep them in place? Tape them, tuck them into your clothing, or use a magnet sandwich, whatever holds the magnets comfortably against the body. There's no wrong way to secure them.
The Bilateral Pair in Action
Let's say your knees are bothering you. You'd place a black magnet on the right knee and a red magnet on the left knee, both at the same location on each knee. Leave them on for 20 minutes. And that's it. That's a bilateral pair in action.
Cliff Notes on the Bilateral Pair
The bilateral pair is the foundational pair of biomag, the most important "biomag basics" to master. Any time your body has a right side and a left side of something, you have a bilateral pair opportunity. Black magnet facing the body on the right, red on the left, 20 minutes, and you're done.
It really is that simple. And once this pairing becomes second nature, which it will, you'll be reaching for your magnets all the time. So go forth and biomag!
