Hydrating with Food
We all know the importance of staying hydrated, but did you know that hydration from food can be just as important as drinking water? Fruits like watermelon are a perfect example. Packed with structured water—naturally more bioavailable to our bodies—watermelon hydrates you more effectively than drinking plain water. Structured water has a unique molecular arrangement that allows it to be absorbed by your cells more efficiently, meaning that the water in fruit quenches your thirst and deeply hydrates your tissues, skin, and organs. Plus, you get the added benefits of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants packed into that food. So, let’s take a closer look at the nutritional bonuses watermelon has to offer.
Nutritional Benefits of Watermelon
Watermelon is a nutritional powerhouse in a pretty pink package. It’s loaded with vitamins A and C, helping support vision, boost immunity, and keep your skin glowing. Watermelon is also rich in lycopene, a potent antioxidant linked to improved heart health and eye health, reduced inflammation, and reduced risks of certain types of cancers. Lycopene gives watermelon its bright red hue; the riper the watermelon, the more lycopene it contains. It is also high in citrulline, an amino acid that improves blood flow and reduces muscle fatigue. Whether looking to support muscle recovery or reduce soreness, watermelon can help your body bounce back more quickly.
Watermelon Sorbet
Ingredients:
4-5 cups of frozen seedless watermelon chunks
Juice of 1 lime
4-6 tablespoons of raw honey (lavender-infused honey when I’m feeling fancy)
Instructions:
Place the watermelon chunks, lime juice, and 4 tablespoons of honey into a food processor fitted with the "s" blade.
Pulse until the watermelon is broken down and the mixture is smooth like sorbet.
Taste the mixture, and if you prefer a little extra sweetness, add the remaining honey.
Serve immediately, or transfer to a container and freeze for later. This recipe makes enough to serve 6!
This Watermelon Sorbet isn’t just a refreshing treat to beat the heat—it’s a smart way to hydrate and nourish your body. With its structured water and powerhouse nutrients, watermelon brings more to the table than just great flavor. So go ahead, grab those watermelons, freeze them up, and enjoy this easy, healthy sorbet all year long. Enjoy!
